What is Psychometric Assessment?

Psychometric assessment is a unique approach used by psychologists to understand an individual’s skills and areas of opportunity across various functional domains, including:

  • Cognitive
  • Educational
  • Behavioural
  • Social
  • Emotional

This is particularly useful for individuals with superior intelligence, learning disabilities, intellectual disability and rare chromosomal disorders, and nonverbal communication. Psychometric assessment can identify an individual’s potential and explore limiting factors.

Psychometric assessment includes:

  • Collection of an individual’s developmental and educational history
  • Completion of an individualised series of tests and questionnaires
  • Interviews with relevant others (with permission), eg. teachers

The completion of psychometric assessment typically requires:

  • Initial consultation
  • Up to 2 assessment sessions
  • Completion of a comprehensive report within 2-3 weeks of assessment
  • Feedback session

The comprehensive report includes a detailed summary of the findings and any relevant diagnoses. In addition, it includes an extensive list of recommendations with strategies and accommodations specific to both an academic and home environment, with additional remedial strategies.
